Is this piece playable for SATB choir?

Recommended Posts

A quick google search for "satb choir ranges" lets me know that your piece is within the allowable ranges for all the singers if you were to transcribe it for choir.  No doubt there's probably a much longer answer brewing among more experienced composers of choral works on this website though.  The only extreme of the range that you ever touch on is the low E in the bass (cello).  EDIT:  And the low C in the tenor (viola).  Now all you need is words!

It's fairly singable, but those low F's and E's in the bass would probably work better an octave higher, you're dwelling on the extremes of the range for quite a bit and it's not a climactic moment or anything. Another option could be putting an octave in divisi, with just very few bassi profondi on that low E you could make it work perfectly.

In musical terms it's a nice little piece.

Also, don't use C clef for the tenor.

Ty!

For writing the tenor is it proper to use the treble clef with 8vb or is the tenor clef still used?

Despite the name, tenor clef's used nowadays only in cello, contrabass, bassoon, contrabassoon and trombone (I think I'm not forgetting any other).

Use only the G-clef with an 8 sign for tenor singers. If you were grouping tenors and basses in a single staff, then you could use F-clef for both, but only in this case.
