Hi all,

Very late and new to this game of recording stuff, would be great to get some feedback on composing/song structures.

The above is an idea i tried to knock up in GarageBand, which is very rough and incomplete. I am just not sure whether it makes any musical sense :)

Will you provide the score of it for easy referencing?

I think the music is really chill. It's a gradual building up from the drum, bass to electric guitars, and the showy electric guitar part is great, as listened by a layman of band music.

Regarding composing/song structures, I don't think that needs to be emphasized at all. I love the improvisatory nature of the piece. It freely displays what the performer feel at the moment. Structure will for sure ruin the essence of this music, since it's not at all about planning but immediate action and reaction with the audience.

Very much appreciate your insight, Henry. As an untrained musician, it is hard to know whether the musical piece passes as acceptable or not in the musical realm.

However, I see from your response that music is more an art than a science so anything is valid and there will always be a listener who appreciates and one that is not a fan.

Before I comment, I'd like to say welcome! Along with posting your own music, feel free to give some feedback on other member's music. It helps not only to get some more feedback on your own music (that's why we're all here, right?), but you'll find some great works scouring these forums.

Seems like you have lots of great ideas, I think one thing you could do is try to write your music with some kind of form in mind. I'm getting a Ted Nugent Stranglehold type of vibe with this, and while that's cool, I think it would be helpful to have some sort of verse-chorus structure at the beginning and end of this. What I'm hearing is like a big middle section without the other pieces around it.

Maybe after the guitar solo you bring back some of the ideas you've established in the beginning? I think that would tie it together in a nice way. Also, the minor pentatonic stuff is cool, the flat 5ths didn't wear on me too much, but something I would keep in mind is when you're soloing over a static progression or riff, it opens up a lot of possibilities in your melodic lines to experiment with different modes and scales that would fit; often times it might give the changes necessary to keep your lines interesting. If you're new to composition and unsure of what else is out there as far as that's concerned, dig around in the forums. There's loads of advice that's been given to people like you who are more or less just starting out, and the best part is it's all free.

I like the stuff you've shown so far, so stick around! I'm excited to hear how you continue to improve and what you might have in store for us next.
