This is really great!  It sounds like a melancholic Italian fugue - almost has hints of an Italian tarantella.  It has a very unusual staggered/syncopated rhythm to it which takes some getting used to upon first listening.  This is quite a smooth and expertly crafted piece though and I enjoy listening to it many times over and over.  It has a relaxed atmosphere and the counterpoint isn't overbearing nor heavy.  Well done and welcome to the forum!

this is actually the reason that the countersubject in measure 3 does not have a tie in beat 2, since the extra note strengthens the sense of the beat when both the subject and countersubject would otherwise be ragged.

this piece was also originally very different, and i only wrote this variation upon suggestion of one of my friends on a discord server i frequent.

I like this version a lot too!  Actually I'm not sure anymore which version I like better - they're both so good!  You should write a whole set of variations on this fugue like Bach's Art of Fugue!  You sure seem to have the necessary skill!  Thanks for sharing.

Hi @mossy84,

Welcome to the forum! I enjoy the fughetta in both versions! Personally I love the organ version more! Actually the difference of both versions is just like that in die Kunst Der Fuge Contrapunctus 1 & 2: One is more square, one is spiky and dotted. Thanks for sharing and you are welcomed to review fellow talented members' works as well!

Henry
