Nocturne, Op.1 Nr.3

Recommended Posts

Very delicate piece, specially with the soundfont/library you used. It's definitely nocturnal to me and I loved how you decorated the score in the video.

There's little criticism I can give this time, since I liked it all the way to the end. Personally I would have enjoyed if you put some tuplets here and there, but the way it is now, but this is just me, not that the piece asks for them necessarily. It was a bit brief to my taste, since the atmosphere you create is very enjoyable and maybe that is why I felt the end to be a bit unsatisfying. Perhaps a little reminiscence of the first bars would have been a nice addition to the section before the end.

I found the absence of pedalling strange, but I suppose the legato mark suffices for the performer.

All in all, a wonderful piece, and very pleasant to listen to!

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

Thank you so much for listening and giving such a kind and valuable feedback. Your criticisms are valid. I too think that the rythm is a bit samey throughout the piece, so the addition of some polyrythms could have worked really well. I did think of extending this piece by introducing a new theme and then concluding it by repeating the starting measures and now that I think about it, it was a really good idea which I missed. Thank you for bringing that up. Your feedback really means a lot and help me learn so many new things and become a better composer! 🙂

I don't think the rhythm samey here since it's a nocturne with very beautiful harmony, melody and colour which will cover everything. Besides your use of polyrhythm and hemiola is fascinating as it doesn't appear mechanical at all! It's fot sure very enjoyable to listen to! The use of theme is fine since it's just a short piano piece and I don't mind a looser structure here.

Beware of b.11 the redundant treble clef!

Thanks for sharing Sambuddha!

I love the immaculate texture created by your crystal clear piano vst.  This is a lovely mood/atmosphere!  It feels like it's probing into some kind of mystery.  I love how you start on the bVI chord of B minor.  Ending on the tonic major 7th chord is a nice touch, but I wonder if the mood/atmosphere of the piece would have been better served by remaining in the minor mode?  Then again, you wouldn't have that nice chromatic voice-leading between the G major chord that precedes it and the B major 7th chord.  Great job and thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for leaving a warm feedback! I also initially planned to end this piece in minor but as you said it aptly yourself, the voice leading sounded more pleasant when I used a picardy third. I also thought, since this is the last piece of my first opus, a major chord ending would be an apt end for the journey. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and sharing your valuable thoughts! ;)

Lovely piece. The quality of the piano samples are spot on, very soft and ethereal as your music intends to portray.

I'm curious about the 6/8 time. To me it felt 3/4, but was just curious of your thought on that.

I'm always excited to hear new music from you, you never disappoint! Great piece here, thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for listening and leaving such a warm feedback. Yes you're absolutely right, it is in 3/4... I don't know why I can't help but make these mistakes when it comes to time signatures lol

I'd discribe this piece like a blooming flower in a war field, it makes me feel the same feeling as lillium (elfen lied opening) because its harmony is shocking, sometimes cruel, but the melody is delicate and bewitching. I like how the piece is 'descending' as each bar is in a lower pitch than the previous one. The only problem that i find is that the piece is very uniform, maybe, an inner section which is faster, more dissonant and has bigger leaps may have been very appreciated.

But, in general, i like it a lot! Btw, how do you do that sheet music animations? also, which software do you use?

Thank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt feedback! I do appreciate your criticisms and I think they are valid. A fast and dissonant mid section would have worked really well. I use musescore 4 with spitfire labs vst. The editing is actually pretty simple... I just remove the white background from my score and overlay it over paintings. Thank you again for taking the time to listen and comment!
