We have a wiki/vbulletin bridge, which is not supported any longer. This is the reason why vBulletin and MediaWiki versions are outdated on this site. Since diagnosing the problems would be more trouble than they are worth, I'd rather kill the bridge for now (this should solve the cookie problems). Basically, I am trying to hang onto this outdated software as long as I can, because updating everything would be pointless since we are changing everything in the next month or two.

AH! I see what you mean. I agree, then. But, I guess you have to consider how it's affecting the functionality of the web-site.

I know. Disabling the wiki bridge would just mean a temporary minor inconvenience, but you could still edit the wiki as a guest. We would have the integration back in no time. The weird thing is that I was able to edit the wiki without this cookie error. Hmm.

I've always wanted to sweep by and delete all those user accounts with 0 posts and last login over a year ago. If anything, some of them are hogging up good usernames! I know it wouldn't really do any good, but I'm a neat-freak about clutter sometimes (just ... ignore my bedroom :musicwhistle:)
Mm. That makes two of us. I like things all clean and neat and organized and consistent, even if it's behind-the-scenes stuff.
This is odd: On a thread, for a second, while it was loading, instead of saying "post reply" it had Kamen's avatar
That happens sometimes when your browser's cache gets corrupt - some cached files (images, etc.) get mixed up. It's only ever happened to me on Firefox when it (or the system) crashes, personally... If it persists, just clear your browser's cache, or force a reload of the entire page (Ctrl+F5 usually).
I have had problems editing my Wiki Profile. Reason? Couldn't tell ya...

Whenever I try to edit it, it says: "Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in."

I logged out and logged back in... that did not work.

ALSO, some people have had trouble uploading works. Myself included. Any idea why?

Session issues seems to be frequent with MediaWiki - I've heard reports of this from three people on three different wikis (one on Wikia - the guy also had problems just staying signed on - one that I set up and administer, now here). I assume it happens even if you submit it within minutes or seconds of loading the edit page. I'm pretty clueless - try signing out and back in from a login form on wiki.youngcomposers.com (not www.), and tick "Remember me".

If that doesn't work, I'm clueless.

Okay, thanks... I'll try that if it happens again :P

Have you tried using Box.net?

Some people prefer to upload here. ;)

hahaha. I personally hate registering on many things so I prefer to upload here, however, I hardly post scores, only mp3s so Yeah, I have to use esnip or box.net :P

Charlie, what kind of file are you trying to upload? MP3s and WAVs are not allowed to be uploaded.

I can't even get an mp3 to upload in Sibelius or any other site!

Got at the top when I clicked on a thread:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING, expecting ')' in /home/yc/public_html/forum/includes/functions.php(1009) : eval()'d code on line 6

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /includes/functions.php(1009) : eval()'d code:6) in /includes/functions.php(2665) : eval()'d code on line 5

Also said it couldn't open the thread or whatever.

That was me testing a theory. Apologies for the interruption.

On the basis of what I have observed today, it seems the site-wide error message that presented itself recently was caused not by someone tampering with the server's files, but by erroneous changes made by a trusted administrator to a small snippet of custom code we use. This code is evaluated at runtime, so it is possible for an error to suddenly crop up without any changes first being made to an actual physical file on disk.

The site was not hacked, nothing was compromised, no personal data was leaked, etc. It seems human error was to blame, nothing more. Even in the event a malicious individual had managed to gain access credentials to an admin account, they would be unable to log into it and make changes owing to security restrictions we have in place.
