chopin
I have to post this now because I need time to collect submissions, then create the video. The rules for this challenge are VERY simple: This is not a "Music Jotter" challenge. Use your usual software. Any instrumentation. Length of piece doesn't matter. Just keep in mind for those who write long pieces, I can't audition the entire 20 minute piece 😅 Create something that reminds us of Halloween. This goes up on YouTube! I might rank the pieces from least scary to most scary, or least Halloween-like to most Halloween-like. Or, I might just talk about what elements make up this type of atmosphere. It depends on the types of submissions I get! Due Date: October 1, 2024 1

It will be a 5-6 minutes piano piece and I will provide you a recording. Thanks for organizing this.
Layne
Hi all! Here is my submission for this challenge! I tried to do something more grand and ominous, with some quirky strangeness in there too. Hope everyone enjoys! Â

I love it! @Jqh73o, @AngelCityOutlaw, @Ivan1791, as a reminder, we have 20 or so days left before I close this thread out since I have to set aside time to create the video. In the end I won't participate, I decided to quit composition for a long while and try to start from scratch and hopefully find my artistic voice again. sned
saw this a little late, but still managed to get it in a couple days with something im happy with. definitely leaned into more of a scary atmosphere rather than a lighthearted scare that halloween probably merits, but im not good at that sort of stuff, so i thought i would lean into using orchestrational-ostinato to create a brooding atmosphere. hope you guys like it! If any of you have scores to accompany your submissions, please update and attach those to your posts. Its not required, but the more content I have for the video, the better. If you don't mind, the part here, and 5 to 10 seconds in. I want to grab the violin and trumpet to show people how instruments can be used in unique and fun ways! If that's too complicated though, I'm ok with the first 5 bars or so, just so I have something to show.

The violin is just dragging your finger up the strings with no real target notes and the trumpet is just vaguely in time, vaguely on pitch fluttering on that one note and the flute is a strictly chromatic run. I did however prepare the intro/main theme of the piece as sheet music and sent it over discord.
