Guest CreationArtist
Welcome to the Piano Rhapsody Challenge! This is the next installment in the Musical Challenge Series after last week's Wind Trio competition: 1st Place: Creation Artist with 12 votes 2nd Place: Mitchell with 7 votes 3rd Place Tie: Eddwin and FPSchubertII with 3 votes This time, we will be writing rhapsodies for the piano. A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour and tonality (as well as atonality/bitonality, but limit the usage of these, since it can be quite hard to make bitonality sound flowing [impossible?]). An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations. The terms above will be used for the public to decide which piece they like best. The piece does not have to incorporate atonality/bitonality, but must flow well from idea to idea, incorporate much tonal control (although letting loose with dissonances is allowed and sometimes encouraged), and have a sense of improvisation. If you wish to participate, submit either a midi/mp3 recording of your piece. A .MUS file is not essential, but is highly recommended. Sometimes you edit your score so that the recording sounds better for playback purposes and you don't feel like going back and making everything as it should be. In this case, the public will just vote (on the poll to be opened based on the submissions) based on the recording. Time Constraints: >1:00 DEADLINE: Any time on May 28 This extended deadline will allow more to participate and more time (since Rhapsodies require a lot of time to connect strong ideas and still flow with ease). Guest CreationArtist
Please reread the post above, I just finished adding to it. No problem.
Alex
Alright. Here's my entry. Couldn't post a midi nor an mp3 because notepad won't let me. EDIT: I may make some changes and repost the piece. Is that ok? Rhapsody in Eb.MUS
Guest CreationArtist
I forgot to mention that once you post the piece, you may not post any new updates! Of course you can make slight changes. You can't resubmit an entirely new piece, though.
Alex
Yeah I know.
Guest CreationArtist
I extended the deadline a little bit. Rhapsody's take a lot longer to formulate.
Mitchell
I'm going to try this, but don't expect anything spectacular from me.
Guest CreationArtist
Same here .. I thought May 7th was a decent choice for a deadline. Last time we wrote in hours (the results were decent), but for a much more complex piano piece, two weeks seems fair.
Mitchell
CRAP. I can't submit anything on the 7th. How about 9th?
violinfiddler
I'll do it.
Guest CreationArtist
The deadline has been moved to the 14th. The 14th is the final edit of the deadline.

Mitchell
Well, I only asked for it to be moved two days so I could submit on time, does it really matter? =S
Guest CreationArtist
1:00 at least! Not <1:00...
Guest Anders
This is my submission. I haven't spent too much time on it, thus it's a bit meandering, but I don't really have the time to give it the attention it deserves at the moment.. It's alright stuff though. enjoy. :D
Alex
It doesn't sound very furious. :)
Guest Anders
Yes it does. I just choose to portray anger in a different way than you would.

johannhowitzer
I think I might try to write something for this, since I haven't written ANYTHING since the Film Competition. No promises, though - my lack of inspiration lately has been very persistent! EDIT: Would a piano duet be acceptable? I've been wanting to write another one, and this seems like a good opportunity. Guest Nickthoven
WHOA?!?!! JON HOWIE?!?!?!?! Long time no see, man! And, I'm writing something for this, although it's coming out to be more of a Toccata, but I can fix that.
