  1. Good hour, I posted my first question here recently regarding interval ratios and their relationships. A user here provided me with great responses which within the array of knowledge, she mentioned "interval class vector". I went ahead and did some research on it and it's really begun to intrigue me because i think it can play a significant role in my understanding of music. So far all i understand about it is that it holds 6 interval classes including their inversions.. 1. Minor 2nd/Major 7th 2. Major 2nd/Minor 7th 3. Minor 3rd/Major 6th 4. Major 3rd/Minor 6th 5. Perfect 4th/Perfect 5th 6. Tritone That is absolutely all i know about interval class vectors. I don't understand how it works, what its exact purpose is nor what does it mean. So my question basically is could you kindly and in layman terms explain to me The purpose How it functions and what does it mean for musical composition Thanks guys!
  2. Hi everyone! Welcome to the revamping of the Masterclass forum. Here's everything you need to know: Masterclasses on YoungComposers are like little mini-lessons focusing on a very specific aspect of musical composition. This can be anything from Ear Training to Score Study. Each lesson will be led by a proficient teacher in that field. Instructors will need to know basic composition skills, with an extended knowledge on the topic they will be teaching. As composition topics for these classes are announced, you can respond here in a separate thread if you'd like to be the proctor of the given class. Instructors are expected to make classes engaging, specific, and dynamic. Simply reading a page on orchestration techniques is not very conducive to learning. Participants for these classes are determined by the signup for each given class. When a new thread for that class is opened, the signups will be open. The instructor can decide how many composers he/she/they will be assisting in a given lesson. A good way to engage your students is to have them write a short 32 bar piece with some basic guidelines, then telling them what they missed and what they can improve upon after the fact. Instructors should mainly focus on the area of teaching relevant to the discussion. For now, I will be deciding what classes will be "official". There will be a thread of compositional topics composers on the forum would like to see covered in the future. The time schedule of these classes will be once every 2 - few weeks. Hit "Follow" on this forum to stay up to date on any new topics you might be able to help the community with!~~ I hope you find these helpful!
  3. Hi all, In music class we had to compose a two minute Choral Speaking work for three voices and perform it. The following names of our classmates formed the text of the composition: Alex; Alisha; Cilia; Maarten; Simone. In the last measure ''Meneer Rouschop'' appears. This is our music teacher. . . The Dutch name for this composition is: Driestemmig Namenspreekkoor, which means that there are three voices (soprano, alto and bass) speaking names. Because there is no real pitch, when speaking, but there is a difference between low and high, we decided to write high pitches on the high F, normal pitches on the middle B and low pitches on the low E. Rythm and dynamics are the most important elements in this composition, since there is no real pitch. We tried to develop the three main themes that are introduced in the canon-like section. Feedback would be very nice! Maarten Bauer

  5. Hey....people. :veryunsure: Not sure if this is an appropriate question to ask, but I figured someone might be able to help. I'm trying to find a composing/orchestration teacher or class in my area (Dallas,TX). Is there any advice from ya'll on where (or how) to look? I've searched on the Interwebs but haven't found anything yet. :headwall: Also, as a starving composer, what do ya'll think would be best? A private teacher, a master class, an online course??? Thanks for your help. Chop :w00t:
