  1. Since Covid made singing in groups so unsafe, choirs have taken a real hit to their membership, and many are still smaller than they were before the pandemic. I wrote this piece to be performable by a small group. The range of the baritone part should be manageable by either tenors or basses, since they are generally the smallest sections in a choir, to help with balance issues. The baritone part does divide a bit for the sake of interest and to give any bass 2s a break from their high range, but as the piano and other parts are generally covering those splits, they can be done away with if a group only has a single male voice, or a conductor chooses to put all their tenors and basses on a single line to improve balance against larger soprano and alto sections. The ranges of the soprano and alto parts are also moderate enough that an alto 1 could sing soprano or a soprano 2 could sing alto in the case of unbalanced sections. I've mainly limited dynamics to mp and mf, since smaller groups are more likely to have blending and balance issues at very loud dynamics or sound timid at softer ones. I'd love to know your thoughts, particularly pianists! (I'm not a pianist). Does anything seem particularly awkward, or should be written for the other hand? Would the thorny accidentals at measure 63-64 be easier to sight-read at speed if I used the Cb and Bbb enharmonic equivalents, so those righthand notes were in paired thirds going up and down the scale? Thank you for your thoughts! Revelation 21 KJV 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
  2. For Good Friday. SAB and cello, or one hand of piano or organ if you don't have a cellist. Choirs always have a harder time finding tenors and basses than female singers, and the problem is worse right now, when so many older singers left due to the pandemic and haven't returned yet. So I thought I would write something with a baritone part that sits right in the middle of the male range. An actual baritone will have a few lovely notes on either side of the range that this is written, but this particular piece can be sung by a tenor without going too low, and also isn't too high for a bass. So whoever you happen to have in your choir, this should be performable, and in normal times, when the tenors and basses together are generally still pretty few in numbers, you'll get a nice balanced sound against the sops and altos. Any thoughts on my cello slurring, cellists? I played violin off and on, but I would love the take of current string players. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  3. This is an ancient melody, spread from East Europe to West Asia. I love armenian chant, and I suppose I only know it in its "modern" version. I took this melody, which is, in fact, a monody, arranged it, added transition parts, harmonized and orchestrated it fully.
  4. I'm sure I could find more things to fidget with, but I'm tired of staring at it. Anyone else want to stare at it for me instead? Suggestions for notating the piano reduction are particularly welcome. I'm not a pianist and there are a lot of moving lines to squish in there. I'd love to know what people think in general. Score attached so you can follow along with the words while you listen. The text is from the psalms and translates to "As a hart longs for the flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God." Hart is an old fashioned word for "deer." It's also a pun on the word "heart." Thanks! Here's a youtube with the score rolling by:

This tribe actually came from the Parrhasians of Arcadia, went on to become the Celtic Parissi, and were then enveloped by Rome. Legend says they came to France from Arcadia, under the lead of Hercules (according to John Baptist Mantuanus). At any rate, the Parisii (a tribe of Isis worshipers), were eventually enveloped in this new Roman empire by the 3rd century AD. Thus the saying "Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris." These deep and cryptic origins of Paris continue. According to Bernard Mathieu: "...Isis was named Pelagia (of the sea), or Euploia (of safe navigation) and Pharia (of Pharos), and was said to have invented the sail and had a temple on the island of Pharos. She was so famous in the whole Mediterranean world that we find her even in the 17th century manuscripts, and comfortably installed ont the prow of the boat on the coat-of arms of Paris which Napoleon commissioned in 1811..." From Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval's 'The Master Game:' "Julian [the Apostate] had governed Gaul - ancient France - for five years and had resided in Lutecia, ancient Paris, for three years between AD 358 and AD 360. Julian and his wife Helen were also devotees of the Alexandrian god Serapis and the goddess Isis-Pharia, and may have imposed, or at the very least encouraged, her cult on the inhabitants of Lutecia. At any rate, [17th century writer] Jean Tristan was to write: 'The Parisians received their name of Paria-Isis, because of the cult of this goddess which had been introduced in Illyria and in Gaul, in the region next to the River Seine and in Lutecia, called 'Lutecia of the Parisians' or Farisians...' " Hancock and Bauval continue: "As further support to this hypothesis, the French classicist Jurgis Baltrusaitis points out that in a fragment of a manuscript from Saint-Hilaire concerning the Council of Rimini, the city of Paris is actualy referred by him as 'Farisea Civitas,' ie the 'city of the Farisians' or, as Jean Tristan has suggested, the city of those who worship Isis-Pharis or Faria-Isis..." To this day, how fitting that 'Paris' and 'ISIS' are inextricably linked in a Grand Rite of Innocent Blood Sacrifice. In Ancient Egypt, the Isis cult consisted mostly of materialsacrifices, such as donations and fasting, and devotees were very public with their displays of worship to the goddess. It was at one time perhaps the largest competitor of Christianity, with a more equal treatment of women (female priests etc). This Goddess of Rebirth has apparently undergone a rebirth of her cult in the modern world. Many dark (sombre) secrets lie hidden in plain sight in the modern city of Paris; the gateway of Isis and Egypt and Hermetic thinking to the West... _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABCBCA; The ‘A’ theme basis is a pseudo-canon using a multi-octave 33 notes sacred geometry scale. 66 bars A1 33 bars A2, 66+33 = 99 is the new moon Cube + flower/egg of life 26 + 7 = 33 6 circles encircling a 7th is flower/egg of life. Louvre has an axis offset of 6 degrees compared to the Axe Historique in Paris, as viewed from the July Column. Nearby in the Place de la Concorde lies the obelisk taken from none other than the Luxor itself. Scott Onstott hypothesizes the reason for all this is to make Paris a mirror of Egypt. The Luxor Obelisk is placed in the center of the 86,400 sq meter Place de la Concorde, 864,000 miles is the Sun's diameter. There are 86,400 seconds in a day. Axe Historique aligns to the heliacal rising of Sirius. Scott Onstott also notes; "The location of the Grand Arch has a special relationship to the Arc de Triomphe, the Luxor obelisk, and the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. All four monuments are spaced in such a way to create this approximate doubling pattern suggesting musical octaves. In addition, the Arc de Triomphe is roughly double the size of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, and the Grand Arch is about double the size of the Arc de Triomphe. "In the scaling of the three arches I see three stargates representing the human, planetary, and stellar bodies, just as we saw symbolized with cubes in London and in DC. Notre Dame cathedral fits perfectly inside the Grande Arche. I'm guessing this is no accident. A tune in three octaves if you will; I call it the symphony of the stargates." _______________________________________________________________________________________ Dna helix, magnetic resonance, harmonic resonance, wave patterns of light, harmony of colors' resonance or their discord etc. It's all told by 3 little 'strings.' 6. This is an application of the "Ter sanctus," (thrice holy) often used in the Eastern Orthodox Church; it is also known as the "trisagion." I'm thinking of working out some more sacred motets in the near future. The piece itself is rather simple harmonically and texturally speaking, and this is intentional; I prefer it this way. These pieces could certainly be more complex and thorough, but I enjoy writing small, simple pieces with a sacred text. Anyway, I'd still love some feedback with all that said!
  7. This is my first time posting on this site! Just looking for some feedback/suggestions on a few pieces. Unfortunately, all I have is a MIDI file for sound, so I suppose that will have to do. Thanks in advance for any comments! P.S. The midi recording has some strange mistakes in it. Most likely because of not wanting to double up on accidentals when different layers in each part share a note.
  8. Hey folks, This is my first attempt at composing for choir. It's obviously not a full-scale piece. It's meant for use as a short prelude. I would love some tips on how to spice up the piano part without disrupting the peaceful nature of the piece. Thanks! P.S. I know you all prefer MP3 to MIDI so sorry about that :/ How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place MIDI.mid

Mostly you just get the resonance of G from the G's on the harp in sympathetic resonance with the rest of what is happening in the piece, and overtones. Thus through omission and undermining, the omnipotent and grand significance of 51 is in a way all throughout any given moment of time in this piece. It cannot quite be heard or seen, but simultaneously it is in a way always there, everywhere, flowing throughout.
  10. Someone on another forum was asking for music for their church treble choir that's just starting to learn to sing harmony. They are good at partner songs and call and response. So this is church appropriate and uses lots of unison and call and response, plus a little bit of harmony. Since it has so much unison it needed a piano/organ part to do some of the heavy lifting harmonically, but I'm not a pianist. If you notice that any of it would require really awkward fingering please let me know! I'm attaching a pdf of the score so you can read along. I think this would also be really nice for treble choir plus women's choir, with the kids taking the first unison section, and then the adults joining them. Or for an easy anthem some Sunday when the four guys in your church choir are all out of town, and all you have are sopranos and altos. Thanks for listening! Here's a youtube with the score rolling by in case that's easier:
