Percussion Ensemble!

I would love to hear more music for percussion ensembles out there! (I'm rather biased being a percussionist myself) but percussion ensemble music is my favorite kind of music! I write for percussion ensemble myself, but I would love to see other people getting interested and into the world of percussion ensembles and drumelines!

I enjoy writing for timpani and young percussion ensembles. I have written a few pieces that seem to work well. I do not write for drumlines, but this is due the the lack of drumlines where I live. Any full band music I write has some sort of focus on the timpani as a melodic instrument in one way or another. I am not a percussionist, in fact I am a trumpet player, but I enjoy writing for percussion. I know your post is over a year old, but I just came on line.

I would love to learn more percussion from someone like you. What program do you usually use to write percussion music? How do you set up the staves in the program?

Sorry about not responding sooner. I have been crazy busy. I use Finale 2010 for my music. I just use the staves available and adjust to suit my needs. I currently have one piece listed in the National Library of Canada. I had a Canadian Publisher pick it up a few years ago. It can be checked out online by typing Soliloquy for Anne. Most of my music is self-published.

I wrote a percussion miniature for 8 percussionists for a workshop the composers at my uni had with the percussionists. It was recorded, I'll YC it one day...

I have a piece I'll post in a few weeks. I'm hopefully recording each part individually for a competition recording.
