November 24, 200817 yr Howdy, I was wondering if you all might be able to recommend some piano works from in and around the impressionist era. I have been composing for fifteen years. I can play piano well enough to facilitate composition into a sequencer and perhaps fool a casual listener into the notion that I have some sort of chops. In the last year I have fallen head first for classical music and I am looking to gain a tactile sense of the music from that period. Any intermediate pieces by debussy, stravinsky, prokofiev etc that might fit the bill?
November 24, 200817 yr You might look at Debussy's prelude from Suite Bergamasque (or even the whole suite) or Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum.
December 2, 200817 yr I like the Sarabande from Debussy's Pour le Piano. It's at a nice slow tempo, so you won't strain your chops too much, but it has lots of nuance and it's still an impressive piece to perform.
