mainly the orchestration is what im concerned about. It sounds great to me but what about some more experienced ears? Any tips would be great! I feel i've made so much progress lately in composing! The last few bars arent composed all the way yet.

I also take advantage of this writing break to work on visual projects: photos, videos or drawings for order-made illustrations. This activity also takes me a lot of time, Forces me to meet certain deadlines, and I'm already late... We all have overflowing lives!

Wow that’s why you sing this well! Yeah it’s the same for me. When I finish a piece or one big part I always need time to recharge myself before going back to writing, which is the case for me now. When I finish that Lamentoso part in my Sextet plus facing some challenges in my life I had zero energy to compose at all, not until recently I started to pick up my composer’s pen to write anything. That’s why I could never be a composer rely on his compositions, since I could never write good pieces quickly… Excited for that! Henry

I have nothing to add to Peter’s wonderful musical memory, gmm’s comment on orchestral colour when he’s a great symphonist or Manuel’s notice of motive. Hello! Thanks everyone for your thoughts and specially for replying so fast! Yes I think Im gonna do something like that, or just divide some of the compound melodies it has between the instruments, like this example below I found: 4 instruments sharing a 3 part piece and it sounds smooth and natural. What do you think? 😄

What about having either the 2nd Violins or the Cellos be divisi? You could have one of the three voices in the 3-part texture be 1st Violins and 2nd Violins doubled. Then, the 2nd voice in the 3-part texture could be Violas either doubled by the divisi 2nd Violins (or if too low) the divisi Cellos. While the 3rd voice in the 3-part texture could be Cellos and Basses!

This is a question I've struggled with too. For a four-part texture, it's obvious that the way to score for string choir is violin I, violin II, viola, cello+bass. But what is the best way to balance a three-part texture? I don't have a good answer, but would be interested in one.

Hello @Lean, Welcome to the forum! For me, why not just have a string trio for the fugue? A violin, viola (or second violin) and cello would be good enough. Henry

Very nice melody & chords. I agree with Peter, the title is perfect. There's a bit of an awkward moment @ 1:24 where the note doesn't blend with the chord. Maybe try another voicing? Anyway you certainly have talent. Good melodies are not easy to come by. Keep up the good work!
