Waltz No.1 [first piece posted]
Thanks for looking at this! Pieter, your comments are much appreciated. I'll remove the braces and pedal notation. The octave at measure 10 is an 8vb, so an octave lower, but you are right that it is awkward; I should probably just switch staves for that section. An mp3 is attached. Please note a few things: the software can't insert, for example, the breath (the pause) between measure 69 and 70, where there should be silence for about 3/4 of a second or so. Also, the other standard things apply about odd arpeggios, volumes, speeds, etc... == Edit == Thanks for the suggestion; link added : http://www.box.net/shared/95y9oamqi3

Waltz No.1 [first piece posted]
Finally I decided to bite the bullet and post my first submission. It's submitted for scrutiny, so please don't worry about being harsh--any advice or criticism at all would be great. Note that I lack theory background, and as such, I'm aware of many significant problems. Any thoughts or advice on this piece? WaltzNo1__.pdf

Paper and pen(cil)
Paper is good for prototyping. A computer is good for editing. That way things stay clean, and don't have to be rewritten if a few measures are to be inserted, etc. So just like what everyone else already said:)

ever get an idea and cant write it down in time?
Ideally, yes, one should be able to create things on demand. But as we all don't have that ability (I don't, anyways) I always have a small microcasette recorder in the house in a known place. Just like many other people here... Also on long trips, in the car--useful not only to record people in case a car accident occurs (good evidence in case they change their story later:D ) but for whistling/humming melodies when neither hand is free to write while driving. Actually nowadays those small digital recorders (eg. Olympus) are the way to go, as ideas can be bookmarked in separate files and revisited later easily. Other than that, if a piano is nearby, I definitely try and write it down. The worst is recalling fragments of pieces from dreams. Or, because I'm sleeping and tired, my mind tricks me into thinking I already whistled the piece into the recorder...but in the morning nothing is there:sadtears: That's definitely the worst. Sort of like thinking you already got up to get dressed, and you're still in bed sleeping:)
