  1. Agreed. Beautiful work.
  2. This is a piece I am working on for a university project. The brief is to create a 3 minute piece to go with a clip from a film of our choice. I choose this scene from American History X, I'm sure most of you have seen the film but if you haven't, the general mood of the scene is very sad and sorrowful/regretful. The piece wasn't written especially for this clip, I just thought it seemed to work quite well so I modified it slightly. I'm not completely convinced that the piano in the first half works that well, maybe it does, I'm not sure. Let me know what you think! MST Project 1- American History X - eSnips, share anything
  3. I really enjoyed the first half of this, although I must agree with the others on the 2nd half. The drums didn't really work for me, maybe try a more prominent bassline instead of drums, or maybe percussion that isn't comprised of the standard kick/snare/hi hats. Just a few ideas. The piano in the first half is beautiful though, nice work with that.
  4. Yeah I agree with Guinness, definately reminds me of some classic J-RPG stuff. The piano part sounds lovely from 1:00 onwards, but I'm afraid I also have to agree with him on the percussion. Try maybe making the tambourine and woodblock lower in the mix, or just remove them. Other than that, it's sounding very nice.
  5. Interesting. I do get the mood you were trying to create, however I think it might be a good idea for you to try something a bit less ambitious, then work up to orchestral writing. Maybe just start by writing a piece that involves 2 or 3 monophonic parts and try to concentrate on creating good harmonies between the instruments. Good luck.
  6. The links don't seem to want to work
  7. Hey guys, cheers for the comments! Very much appriciated, I definately agree with you, Johann, you've raised a good point regarding my choice of chords. I'll work on it! Don't worry, I'm not a one-time poster, I've just been extreeeemely busy recently. Excellent stuff guys. I'll try to get on here more, looks like a nice little community you've got.
  8. So I based this orchestral piece on the classic riff from Deep Purple's legendary 'Smoke on the Water'. Written on my sister's laptop while I was on holiday/vacation in southern Italy, this piece is largely inspired by the images of forest fires that were all around us at the time (don't worry, none were that close!) At 0:26 a character is introduced, he is supposed to be quite a foolish character, but at the same time threatening. He represents one of the alleged arsonists that are supposed to be starting a lot of these fires in southern Italy. The calmer part at 1:01 represents some relief from the fires as a gentle and soothing rain descends on the countryside, quenching the fires. The fires then return at 1:59 and the piece is brought to a dramatic (I hope) finale of victory over the fires. Let me know what you all think. This is my first post by the way, so hello everyone!
