  1. It was a nice piece of music, but I didn't feel that it ultimately lead anywhere. I think you should start with something like a good melody and then try to expand upon that. Or you might try playing a series of chords and then try to fit a melody on top of them. Still, the piece had a great sound to it. I just personally prefer music that sounds a bit more "planned"
  2. Either the MIDI file is too quiet to hear or it is completely silent.
  3. Thanks for your comments, Dev. I uploaded the wrong score. The fifth staff was just added because the pizzicato part does not sound "pizzicato" unless you create a separate staff/channel for the pizzicato string part. I've edited the original post to correct this. As far as the "meh"-ness of it, I have to agree. I don't usually like to write slow, melodramatic pieces but they're easy to write. The idea behind this one was to have as many modulations to far away keys as possible without them being too obvious and jarring. If you guys had suggestions about technical issues too, that would be very helpful. Is the bowing written in well? How easy do you guys think it would be to play? Are there any notes which need to be enharmonically respelled? Are the key changes too abrupt and jarring? And so forth...
  4. Sorry. Here's a link to Box.net: http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_mp3_player_run&id=f_299773684&name=String%20Score%20%231.mp3&myfiles=1 thanks for your patience.
  5. Here's a link that should work: String_Score_1.mp3 - FileFactory
  6. Hello again everyone. I had put up a link to this piece before under subject about bowing, and now that I've completed it I would like some feedback about the piece as a whole. I'm going to get a quarter to do a reading soon, so I want to make absolutely sure that this piece is perfect before then. Let me know what you all think. score: page 1 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3643/3638174606_be4ab4d628.jpg?v=0 page 2 http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2469/3637361597_c7a57fb5cd.jpg?v=0 page 3 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3543/3638174718_d909c4bb76.jpg?v=0 page 4 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3619/3637361709_177c999055.jpg?v=0 music mp3: String_Score_1.mp3 - FileFactory
  7. Berlioz, This is a pretty well written piece of music. I think the only complaint I have is that it gets a bit tedious around the 3 minute mark. You should change texture more and try to vary the sound of the piece. Other than that, good writing.
  8. Thanks Dan, you've been a great help.
  9. One follow up question: what is the maximum number of notes that could be fit into a single bow stroke? Let's use the tempo of this piece as a guide (45 bpm).
  10. I'm not a string player, and figuring out bowing has been a bit of an ordeal for me. At first I wrote the piece with absolutely no bowing slurs in it, but then I tried to add some and ended up more confused than I already was! I've been reading Kent Kennan's and Samuel Adler's Orchestration texts and trying to study scores for similar pieces (i.e. Mahler's Adagietto from Symphony 5), but I'd like someone else's critical opinion. here's the mp3 file to listen along to: pathos2.WAV - FileFactory Here's the pages of the normal version: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3301/3597900708_7ff819cf2e.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3625/3597900940_e14cea5270.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3632/3597900982_2f88656d9e.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3363/3597901030_ce91ea5536.jpg?v=0 And here's the same piece with my attempt at writing in bowing: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/3597900766_15b16a2382.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3406/3597900816_405e0c08ee.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3381/3597900886_3536c38d84.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3337/3597900920_4f8799a448.jpg?v=0 Is this bowing random and stupid or not? Don't spare any judgement, rip me apart. And I also apologize for the lack of pdfs.
