Tribute (work in progress) - Version 2
Just realised that if I posted this in my version 1 thread, no-one would realise I'd done so! Thanks for the feedback so far - much appreciated. I've been instructed on the terniary form and have tried to build more structure into the piece. It's now 2 minutes long and has Violin, Viola, Harp and Flute. Download Version 2 - Tribute (Rapidshare) Let me know what you think :-) -- Mike

Violin Sonata No.1 - "Fallen Angel"
Ooh, this is nice :-) The beginning reminds me a bit of Howard Shore's music for the movie Mrs Doubtfire. I'm doing this as I listen to it, so forgive the forensic analysis :-) I love the transition around 1:37. 2:43 - I swear that's wrong... Could just be a performance mistake tho. Very dramatic in the middle section. 4:46 - the high note violin could be held on more into the driving piano section. The ending is very dramatic and striking. It seems like it _should_ end abruptly. I really enjoyed this piece - seems very complex to play (though obviously manageable!) and some lovely themes in there. The transition of control from piano to violin and back again is well handled, though you could probably soften the transitions some more to make the piece more cohesive. Nicely done - look forward to hearing more from you. -- Mike

Tribute piece (work in progress) - Ensemble
Hi everyone. This is the first composition I have ever been close to finishing. I'm writing it as a tribute to a particular hospital ward (that saved my step-daughter's life). It's for string quartet plus harp and flute. It is a work in progress. Please be constructive. I accept that it's probably not very good, but I thought I'd share it anyway. Download from Rapidshare I hope it doesn't offend anyone's ears. :-) -- Mike

Supernova
I don't seem to be able to download the MP3 piece at all - the hosting service you use doesn't seem to be there anymore. I'd love to hear it - can you re-upload? -- Mike

Finale v. Sibelius
I've found that Finale suits me best for one reason: I used it first and Sibelius doesn't use the same hotkeys. The only thing that really upsets me about Finale at the moment is the Audio Export feature when using Garritan or other VSTs - it just doesn't work. Maybe Sibelius is the best one, but until I can use both in the same way, I wouldn't like to begin to compare the higher feature sets!

In Dreams (for string orchestra)
It's both meditative and moving... well, to my ears anyway. Look forward to further installments as it progresses. :-) -- Mike

The Light Breaks Through the Leaves
Yes, very nice indeed, tho I am a sucker for string ensembles. I can see how you could have been inspired by that picture. There's hints of "it's dark in here" as well as "I'd love to be out there in the sun" Nice job. -- Mike
