Piano Piece

Featured Replies

Hello again,

I wrote the beginning to this piece, stopped, wrote another piece, and then finished the rest of the piece in a few days. It's definately not the best piece in the world, but still it is at least somewhat nice-sounding...

Although I'm relatively new to composing, I tried to branch out and be a little more creative and expressive. I'm still not sure if it worked very well. All of my music up to this point and in the near future has been and will be mostly experiments rather than great works of musical genius (however, both would be great :) )

Anyway, I hope the piece is worth your time. I try to hard structure my pieces, but really, I care less about the structure, and more about the overall sound. I'm just sort of like, "okay, end of minor section...MAJOR SECTION!" ...which may be a bad thing...

Either way, here's the mp3.

And here's the midi, but the mp3 sounds better.2800.attach_thumb.jpg

Thanks a lot!

It starts off a bit slow but I like how that creates a good contrast between the quick major section that comes up; and it doesn't sound out of place either, it's a good transition.

It /was/ nice ^_^ Creates a very calm, pleasant mood. But I think it could get tiresome for some with a short attention span. Try making them more short and sweet.

In all honesty, I really didn't like the quick section. I don't think it lines up very well, chordially (haha...), that is, chord-wise. Also, after the last long chord before the recap, there should be a couple grace notes, but I forgot to put them in. Alas...

But I think it could get tiresome for some with a short attention span.

Haha! I agree in entirety! *points at himself*

Thank you for the comments!

Evan

Yeah I agree - the beginning can be quite a bit sluggish though your use of sequence is interesting and canonic features can be seen throughout the piece. Liked when you brough the theme back with the running LH.

The faster section sounded like running scales in LH. Maybe you could chord it up a bit, instead of letting it being like another test  And concentrate on a bridge between the two sections, taking both ideas from the A and B section, merging them and bringing the tempo back to the beginning.

I see what you're getting at by the trills - unfortunately the MIDI file doesn't do it justice. Good recap of the theme. The ending though I felt was too slow, maybe repeat the crotchet chords again before going to the minim, minim, semibreve.
