Good universities to study music in the U.S.?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! I'm not only a music student but also a Marketing student. I try to keep up with both studies, of course not as fast as if I did only one of them.

The thing is: at the university where I study Marketing, I get the chance to be part of an exchange program and study at an American university for one semester (I'm Argentinian, in case you didn't know). I would like, then, to go to a university that has good musical studies. San Diego State is one of the choices I can pick from, and it seems to be a good place to study, is it? The list is longer though.

So well, the question is: Do you know, from the following list of universities, which of them would be a good place to study music?

PD: Sorry if the thread is misplaced, I didn't know where to put it.

Cheers

Out of ALL those schools, I would really only recommend University of Texas and UNC-Greensboro for music.

Great! Thank you so much! Really, thanks for the effort of reading all and recommending.

By the way, what makes them better than the rest?

All those other schools are pretty much no names, no where close to being considered top in the country in anything that I'm aware of.

Well that's probably the reason why we get to go there :(

Finally I will be applying for San Diego State University as first choice. Do you know anything about music there?

Thanks a lot!

Diego.

Um the Hartt School from the University of Hartford in Connecticut is a very good school. Juilliard obviously. Ithaca School of Music in Ithaca New York, Manhattan school of music. University of Indiana is a very good composition school. That is the school that the concert band composer Samuel Hazo graduated from.

Someone didn't read the first post ... :whistling:

No he didn't. Also, Hazo? Yuck

oh shoot i forgot he graduated from duquesne univ. shoot. sorry. I was getting it confused with my teacher saying something about going to school where he played something by him. Samuel Hazo is amazing. The guy's lyricism and versatility of pieces is quite extraordinary.
