First pieces.

Featured Replies

Hi. Hoping for a little feedback on some of my first pieces. I have no formal musical education, so I'm hoping that any major errors will be pointed out to me, & maybe even find my musical ideas enjoyable.

I haven't got the midi files or pdf's available, as I lost a lot of music recently with computer issues. Still learning my lessons (BKUP - BKUP - BKUP) !

Music page of Mark Davies - MP3 music page on SoundClick

> Orchestral Farruca - which is based on a guitar arrangement I did for a show with a couple of dancers.

> A Buskers Alms - which is just an idea I had in a celtic style. My harp recorded in a concrete box (spare room) mixed with EW GoldXP.

> Hero Film Theme - an idea I had for orchestration based around Andalusian rhythms.

Heard some great music on this forum already, & looking forward to participating when I can.

Cheers !

I went ahead and listen to Farruca.

There isn't much I can say about it without a score, so I just have to go based on sound.

A couple of things:

First, it sounds pretty neat but from time to time, it seems to become messy. It looks like you have to many things going on at once and things become cloudy, which can sound awesome, but I think you might need to focus on rewriting those sections just a bit to add more clarity.

Also, i'm not sensing any dynamics. Everything just seems a bit static.

Thanks for the comments, Dofts. I'm sequencing this piece again, to match the mp3 as best I can. I'll try & post the score soon. The dynamics are an issue which I've been growing more aware of. Can you give a time eg: mins - secs where the clarity is lost ?

It could be due to my attempt to get a big sound to capture the power & depth of expression of the dance at certain points. The timpani hits are representative of the dancers footwork (golpe y tacon etc) combined with the french horns & Contrabass.

Maybe pulling back the volume overall would help.

Thanks again.
