Scary Music

Featured Replies

I want to write a piece of music which is genuinely terrifying to listen to. Fear is a very difficult emotion to stimulate through any media (I mean REAL fear, not just 'boo!' fear), but especially music. I have no idea how to do it.

Any suggestions where I should start researching? Thanks. :P

Dissonance, crescendos accompanied by the pitch getting higher and higher (moving up in semitones maybe), large range of overall pitches (e.g. piccolos and double basses), atonalism, etc.

Just listen to the soundtrack of a horror film. I'm sure you'll pick it up in no time.

Listen to Danny Elfman's Batman Returns soundtrack - or more specifically the "Selina Transforms" bit (Although it does have a bit more emotion in it than just raw horror elements but it's sure as hell one of the creepiest pieces I've ever listened to).

Alright,

Download this song... called

INFANT SACRIFICES TO BAALBERITH by ANCIENT RITES

The name of the Disc is THE DIABOLICAL SERENADES (or the diabolic serenades) (the name of the band is Ancient Rites)

the track "infant sacrifices" is the intro of the album... One of my favorite pieces haha... what I call Terrifying :shifty:
