Spanish Dance for full orchestra (now finished!)

Featured Replies

The piece is now finished and clocks in at almoust 3 minutes. It starts with a moderately slow introduction theme, but it quickly picks up pace. The strings section starts off with a syncopated accompanient, then a solo clarinet comes in with a theme. This theme is passed onto the flute, and then new themes are introduced by various instruments throughout the piece until the end, where the full orchestra plays together while the french horns and the trumpets play two of the main themes overlapping each other while simultaneously accelerandoing.

I hope you enjoy!

Maybe i'm just bias, but this stuff really like. I don't know, i guess i just really like the whole spanish style.

That aside...this is a really enjoyable piece, with yes, like you stated, with alot of energy.

Maybe it may be just the midi, but this would really fit well in a Final Fantasy as one of those 'other style' type of pieces, i.e. Vamo'alla Flamenco.

I really like this.

I like the piece, but i hear a fair few dissonances with the oboe and brass in various parts. I don't think you were looking for these.

Some of the melodies also sound more 'middle-eastern' as portrayed in pop-culture, rather than spanish.

The rhythms are mostly spanish sounding though.

Also, it ends too abruptly. I just dont like accelerandos in general, but this does seem to end too suddenly.

Good work overall, youve captured the feel pretty well.

I agree that the melodies are more middle eastern, but the rythyms are more spanish. I suppose I could turn the piece into some kind of "Spanish Muslim" piece, because there are quite a few middle easterners/muslims in Spain.

Which dissonances are you talking about? The only dissonant oboe part I can remember is when it's an oboe solo where the brass are tacet- maybe you're thinking of the strings part instead of the brass? Sometimes it's hard to tell on midi. :)

I didnt meant oboe and brass at the same time.

The oboe melody is a bit dissonant against its accompaniment, and when the brasses are playing in harmony, it's dissonant.

Those dissonances are intentional. The melody is the main importance for harmony- the accompanient is there more for rythym than for harmonization.

I really enjoyed it!! Especially the woodwind and brass parts they were excellent and I mean it.

I thought the accelerando and crescendo at the end was not necessary. The momentum in the piece is enough to drive the music into a fabulous ending, and I'm guessing you used triple forte for the ending? I didn't really like it, the instruments lose their clarity in tone. Of course, this is a midi file but I don't recommend going so far with the dynamics.

I hope that helps. Everything besides the ending was great!!

Spanish music is heavily influenced by Muslim music. Flamenco especially, but all spanish music certainly owes a lot to the Muslim world.

Concerning the piece: I enjoyed it. I didn't quite get a dance feel the whole way through, but certainly it begins to pick up near the end. I was actually tapping my feet to it for the last minute or so! Fun stuff.

Anyway, good job and keep up the good stuff!
