pianistboy
Okay, I'm not sure where to put this thread. Its not a competition or a game, but rather a project that I have decided to do this year. Mods, if this doesn't fit here, feel free to move it to a more suitable spot, that would be fantastic! I intend to write a collection of piano miniatures, one for every month of the year. This was inspired by Tchaikovsky's collection of the same idea. So every month, I'm going to write a piano piece, probably no more than three minutes long in length (maybe longer, just depends). Then at the end of the year, I'll have a decent sized piece of repertoire, and at the very least, it'll keep me writing something every month. Anybody interested in undertaking this with me? Ferkungamabooboo
I'll do it, but what exactly are you looking for collaboration with?
pianistboy
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I'm just doing my own but I think its a neat idea and I was thought maybe others would want to do their own. No collaboration involved. :D
MatthewSchwartz
Sounds like a great idea. But where I live, every month is pretty much the same, so I'll pass this. :)
Rodin
I think I'll do this, but probably with string quartets instead of piano pieces. It sounds like a great way for a person to build their repertoire and hone their composing chops.
Mathieux
I'll do this as well, very cool idea! Although I think I might add some of my own ideas into it as well, like write the piano piece for every month as you said, but also write a little snipet of a huge orchestration that will come together at the end of the year, that way I will see my progress, not only on one instrument but on many and seeing my progress in orchestration as a whole. Christian Opperman
I'm intrigued. I will try my hand at this - epically fail, but I'll see what I can do. ~Christian
Old Composer
Sounds like a great idea. But where I live, every month is pretty much the same, so I'll pass this. :) Alaska's a scallop. I would be interested in doing this possibly, but I feel like I wouldn't actually complete it. I have a lot of other stuff that I'm working on. Maybe some other year. kpisney
You know, I think this might be the thing I need to start off composing stuff! I've only made minor snippets here and there and it was all only due to short times of sitting at my school's piano's and between each of these sit-downs is usually a very long interval of time. I'll take this on with you! Might stick to the thing you've got going but also might do ensemble work for some special months maybe...just a thought.
