Berlioz
Ok, I got mixed up... What exactly is the sounding range of a flute?? I know it starts at middle C, but does it sound an octave below what's written?? Or the opposite?? Plus, when I use my keyboard to write the notes of a flute in Finale the program automatically pulls them up one octave.. I'm confused!!
J. Lee Graham
I'm not sure what's going on with your keyboard interface - I wish I could get mine to work. The compass of the flute is middle-C to one octave above high-C - a total of 3 octaves. It is written exactly as it sounds. You may be thinking of the piccolo, which has a compass an octave higher than the flute and sounds an octave higher than written.
