I discovered this monster of an etude recently and I am surprised that works of his, especially this one are not performed more often.

He reminds me of a Russian Liszt if you will. :)

Maybe because he was a pupil of Liszt? Yes it is sad he is lesser known, he's actually my avatar picture.

Look up Variations and Fugue on a Russian Theme, good song.

Also his 12th etude is in memory of Liszt.
