October 18, 200916 yr Hi everyone. Sorry for double posting but I just found this composition in my library. I started it a while back and never got around to finishing it. Basically I would like to know if this song has any credibility as an orchestrated track or is it just a complete mess? Any input would be fantastic. Thanks a lot! Oh yeah the xylophone is supposed to represent a clock :P Clockwork.mp3
October 18, 200916 yr hi, its a great idea, look at haydn's colck ymphony, might provide somne more insiration. i loved the clarinet solo at the end, but is it supposed to just finish like that? i could see that the solo was built on a blues scale of some kind, but try to be a bit more adventurous. it was a bit messy, but good for it, it really added to the texture. i liked the xylophone opening, but i thought that the orchestra could have come in more gradually, or perhaps you wanted a sudden feel. i liked the violin tune, and i often use lutes with the violin part for definition, but with this piece i dont feel that it added anything much. overall a great attempt, look at the haydn piece because although its bnot your style, without them what would we have? p.s. love the george gershwin quote!
October 19, 200916 yr Author Thanks for your comments. The song is NOT supposed to end like that, that's just the part I got up to when I last worked on it. When i get the time ill be reworking all the solos plus finishing the song. I'm not sure when that is, but ill be sure to post it when im done. Haydn's Clock Symphony is fantastic, I've heard it a number of times before, However it is a classical symphony and I find it hard to relate it to this song (except for the ticking beat). Thanks again for your comments!
October 19, 200916 yr hi again, i only suggested that you listen to the Haydn for some inspriation, lol
October 19, 200916 yr No, is not a complete mess, is simple but sounds good and that's the important thing... Unless you wrote something like a note out of range or stuff like that I'd say that the orchestration is "ok" ... (that's all I can say without seeing the score) Pretty Piece  Yeah where's the ending part ?
