December 10, 200916 yr This work is in progress. The form is going to be a rondo/fantasy free form. So far I have the A section, first B section, and the second A section completed. I've got to have this piece finished by Friday at the latest! Essay no 3
December 10, 200916 yr Sounds good your orchestration ideas though why not make the chimes a bit more of a structural device by hearing them alone? Also the chromatic descent and the harmonic shifts are good ideas but I think you are being a bit too predictable to the harmonies you head. Finally you have short motives - why not link them into a long phrases to create a thread that promotes longer range development/exposition. I'd also explore the chromatic descent to major chord I hear it once so far and find it a nice tease. Would love to see you take off with that.

The tubular bells I do plan to do that with later on in the piece. For this short 60 measures, I only have two actual harmonic changes/sections. The A section is firmly in b minor for its first statement and then in B major for its second statement. The B section is in b minor - but the harmonies there are all a result of the counterpoint that is occuring. I like the idea of linking the motives together - the A section motif and then the B section motif. I had given thought to do that in the D section of the work (as well as linking the C section motif in with A and B.) We will see though, I have the work somewhat planned out. The chromatic descent is exactly what I was going to do, actually. That will be my bridge/transition between sections and serve sort of as a structural binding tool - if you can call it that. Glad you like my orchestration, I know when I first came on the forum a year ago... my orchestration was very poor. That just goes to show how much I compose.
May 19, 201015 yr Very intense song, I like the chime parts a lot. I agree, you could do so much more with them though. Great stuff!
