February 25, 201016 yr This is a sample from an ambient album I'm working on, codename: Vistas. It doesn't have a title, and while I'm not sure that it's done, I've been staring at it for weeks and I can't think of another thing to do, so I'm calling it finished. Simple and light, especially compared to the industrial noise music I've made a lot of. Vistas 1
February 25, 201016 yr Welcome to YC, Electronic Forum... Your piece is very good, specially the slowmotion in harmony, Major 7th and 9th, very good (I also have a piece very similar to that)... The LFO is well programmed in Rate and Speed, the high voices are very relaxing. I do understand the type of static ambient in harmony but a little modulation would be good from time to time, .... modulating from the static F Major ambient to Bb Major, that won't interrupt your cool ambient but will add some clear expected change. The Ending could be better with an easy candenza in harmony before featuring the final long F ... (like Bb, Db, F....) These changes can be easily achieved by moving the Bassline, and in this case I think you need an stronger louder bass sound not only to support harmony but the low frequencies in the entire ambient. Your Audio Files ia a bit weak, you can turn up the main volume of your software or ampify the output file in some Audio Editor like "Audition". (probably +3db or +4dB) Also, can you tell us about the software you used to create this...
February 25, 201016 yr Author Thank, man! Where's your piece? I'd be very interested to listen to it. I hear you on the drone bass, and I will give it a try. I left the bass note a drone just because I was concerned about it being a little over-stereotypically new age with the synthvox on top and a big fat fifth on the bottom. As for the lack of bassiness, before adding another instrument or note, I'll probably try pitching the whole thing down a few steps first. That pad is so resonant, there's not much room for anything else. And you're right, the ending is too abrupt. This was built in FL Studio 8, mostly using Sytrus and a whole raft of effects I don't recall at the moment. It'll be mastered with FL Studio, too, when it's time for that ;-), which will resolve the volume and the slightly out of control ressonance I decided to ignore.
February 25, 201016 yr My piece is on online in other website, I can't post the link here, ... is part of an album.. (Currently is posted the track 6 only) I shall post the entire album I'm just waiting for other members to post their stuff, to avoid multiple post in one day and monopolize the forum, Sytrus is very good, (an complex) maybe the bassline can be fixed doubling the bass note an octave lower,... Insert the dB Meter in the master track of the mixer to easily realize when something's weak or loud.
February 25, 201016 yr Author no no no no, slaping an octave on the bass will turn the whole thing to mush. ----- Here we are, I've reuploaded the track. Say it with me, folks: Now, with mastering!Lesson learned.
February 26, 201016 yr Yeah the discret harmony modulations enhance the piece. The ending is better but the final note needs a longer duration, let it rest a few seconds more. If you want to improve even more, you can spread the notes into PAN, because everything seems to be on center, the main Sytrus Pan knob doesn't need to be adjusted, in the PianoRoll you double-click any note and a few controls appear where you can set individual PAN for some notes, or in the bottom area (where you see Velocity) click at left and select "Note Paning", that would give a nice effect from time to time. but was very nice since the first version...
March 22, 201015 yr Very relaxing and soothing no doubt. I really like this. In fact, I've been listening to it for the past 45 minutes. Turned my not-so-positive attitude into a more calm state of mind. I can imagine space with this ambi-... well I feel dumb now. Ambient sorta goes together with space as something implied...
