Festival (June Competition Entry)

Featured Replies

This is my entry for the June Competition. My idea was attempt to portray a sort of early-music festival improvisation, with each instrumentalist exhibiting its own interpretation of the main theme. I was pressed for time towards the end of the month, so it didn't turn out exactly as I would have liked, but I'm still proud! Any suggestions/comments are well appreciated!

Very good! I would say at 0:26 to leave out the strings (the melody got a wee bit lost with the strings, or whatever it was). Very nice. Great themes!

Nice!! You've really captured the medieval festive sense. I adore the selection of instruments - rly good :)

I think the main niggle I have with it is that you spent too long dawdling on the xylophone in the middle - maybe throw a few instruments, or pass-a-tune would work here ;) Another problem is the lack of cohesiveness. Although I think you tried to repeat the start, the middle lasted so long in comparison, and the transitions were so comparatively abrupt that you lost some of the structure and sense of unity. It was more like 3 different pieces strung together.

However, apart from that, it's a pretty cool job. There are some really fabulous instances of harmony at the start, and the samples were brilliant for notation :D

Thanks for sharing, good luck in the compettition :)
