(Unfinished) Part of a project I'm working on to a produce a "movie score", so I can work on practicing composing this type of music. Please leave some comments on how I'm doing so far. Any ideas to make it sound better / smoother?

It's supposed to sound like the main characters are adventuring through the jungle to get to their destination.

First of all, I think that the realism and mix could be improved upon - but are you using notation or a DAW??

I think that the woodwind bass could be altered throughout - it started to feel a little repetitive in the end. The last 30 seconds was a little unsteady too - there is little relation from the melody and the chords - maybe join them up a bit more. Apart from that, it sounds pretty good though -thanks fro sharing :) I love the slightly jokey, yet serious mood you depicted.

Notation, Finale 2009 and I bought a full version of Garritan Personal Orchestra to get some better orchestra sounds. I really want to get to know how to work with the ARIA Player to get the most realistic sound I can. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction so I could read up on that? :D

I'll try to get a little more creative with the WW bassline...I have a few more ideads jotted down I want to work into this piece that'll help with that hopefully. Glad you got the mood I was going for, too. :) As for the last 30 seconds, I'll try to get them to work together more & see what I can do with that. Thanks for the comments. :)

I thought it was really nice, although I did find the overall structure to be a tiny bit incoherent. It is difficult with "imaginary cinematic" music to really judge you on that, though: depending on what the picture looks like, this could be fairly good scoring. Without images with which to put the music, I have a difficult time really saying that the structure is flawed or not.

Do you have any outline that you are going by-- something that can give us an idea of what the imaginary film this is supposed to score looks like at all?

In my experience, I've picked (un-adapted) books to score as an exercise. Perhaps, going forward, you could choose scenes from your favorite books to score-- work out the timings (how long each part takes), and write music to it. I find this to be a better way of getting better at scoring (after all, it imposes an outside structure onto your music-- you can't just write your way out of a problem and change the story) and gives critics a better means by which to judge how well the music and "picture" go together.

Great first effort though.
