Hi this is my first post on the site!, ive always liked writing music since i started GCSE Music however i was not always that good to start with, once i got through my AS year at college i just cannot stop writing music, since i play the piano i would have thought writing a piece for it was slighty easier but it isnt :ermm:, but i tacked this one and hope its not just boring and crappy. Its written in a style i only define as "Evil Jazz" i don't actully know what style it falls under, maybe along with some advice someone could point it out! It even has a title.."City Of The Night"

hope to hear from you all!

and forgive the fact its midi :ermm: it sounds horrible lol, any1 got Sib can import and use Kontack!

:( interesting blend of rocky and jazzy styles, with a nice use of ostinato for a ground.

Well, it's not boring or crappy. But it is not very imaginative, or perhaps more accurately, highly derivative of a pretty standard blues style. Unfortunately, the ostinato does go on and on, and your 'modulation' if you want to call it that (because some might mistake it for a IV chord in a highly augmented blues form) comes at an awkward measure number - This from listening, and not counting or looking at your scoring. I didn't listen much farther than this because I figured I'd heard what I needed to. Your 'melody' sounds more like a fairly innocuous improvisation. I could name any number of Jazz musicians that I know personally who could improvise material over your ostinato on the first take that is much more interesting and cohesive than what you have. Compositionally speaking, you have done nothing that hasn't been done countless times before. I guess what I'm saying is, technically, this is not so much a 'composition' per se as it is an example of a standard Jazz/Blues idea. Composition? In the barest sense in the left hand - maybe. But the right hand? Improvisation, in the hands of dilettantes, is rarely if ever 'composition'.
