The Scavenger (former Final Battle)

Featured Replies

Epic mood. Reminded me of a final boss fight mid-composition.

It's the first time I mix the piano and the orchestra, if only occasionally.

I might use this for a future piano concerto.

UPDATE: Score. But it's despicably dirty and dynamic-free.

UPDATE: Added harpsichord, organ and mechanical sounds to give it the atmosphere I had intended at first as a character's theme. Now aptly named The Scavenger.

The Scavenger (former Final Battle)

I liked this, the minor ambient always please me, the main theme is very good, it does have the fight spirit of a battle, the piano part really justify the use of it. I will comment again with the score,

You sure this is ok in Game ?

Now with the score....

I don't think the final C in timpani only is a good call, you also can put the piano chromatic scale in both hands, is perfectly played, this way one hand won't be wasted, the clarinet doubling the arpeggios in page 12 is a very bad idea, is very very difficult at that speed, and the clarinetist will want to shot you, (I would, if suddenly they tell I have to play that, I would go to shot you :D ) Change the cl part, I can explain you how the clarinet works but perhaps you already know...

Some trombone notes seem too low for me, like the low G, that note is more powerful one octave higher with the Tuba in the low one, better effect.

and why not to put the last piano key at the end, the player will have a big temptation to press it

Something happened here ? wasn't more comments yesterday ?

This was made in quite a hurry yesterday, and I intend to extend it, developing further and correcting some of those things you said.

I want it to end without the tonic, in fact, I just decided to use the timpani's C because I wanted the loudest bang possible. And no, no last key for the pianist.

The clarinet part is playable and half as difficult if it's in divisi, each three-note arpeggio by one of the clarinets. And I am aware of how badly orchestrated that part is. xD

I like muddy trombone sound in those parts you referred to.

There were more comments? I didn't see any... :(

then was just my imagination :eyebrow:

well, with two clarinets playing that way, is get better, (add the I, II) but don't forget the break point between ranges E2-C4 and B3-F5

I can definitely see this being used as a major battle theme.

I loved the brass when it came as well as the percussion. Then the string/piano parts that took over where excellently timed !

I really liked the change in pace at 1:40.

Really enjoyed this a lot :)

I very much agree with Wendell, this very well suited for a boss fight or battle scene (personally, Soul Calibur came to mind). I like the piano with the orchestra, it gives a nice and simple beginning to a complex and wonderful piece. The chimes are a very nice touch as well.

UPDATE!!

This piece was intended as a theme for a character much like Silver Rick (another piece of the kind). This character is aboard a heavily modified steamship, mostly steampunk stuff and all, and so I added harpsichord, organ and mechanical noises to the piece to complete it as I had thought it at first.
