I use opus numbers for my own personal use as well. Any works written in a specific year will be assigned the same opus number:

Early Works (1998 - 2000): Op.1

Works from 2001 - 2003: Op.2

Works from 2004: Op.3

Works from 2005: Op.4

Works from 2006: Op.5

And so on.

This is just for me to keep track of the year in which the pieces were written. It actually took me ages to figure out which pieces fell under which opus number as i had never recorded when i wrote them.
