I got this gross feeling in the pit of my stomach from all the Dissonance.......

Well, I will say this, I think you should ease off on the dissonance, alot.

As for the melody, I couldn't quite detect it, I didn't hear much form in it either, I am not really a fan of Modern Music so I guess I will comment no futher

The dissonance was a bit harsh, but that may be the composer's intent - my problem was that it wasn't even - I mean you have a dissonant sandwich with tonal filling - about 1:20 into the peice this get WAY too tonal - then it goes out again. I guess I prefer to have the composer keep things on the same planet for the sake of continuity. Also, I have to agree with CG, computer generated recordings of something that's remeniscent of the pounding on a piano that we use to do as children is particularly hard to stomach.

I give it 2/5 stars

The reason for me recording it within the computer is because I yet have the skills to play the piano ...

I thought about the Dissonance and you are right, a bit, but that's my intention.

I listen to contemporary music a lot...atonal, dissonant and experimental.

And this pieces is actually great in this genre, and the combination of atonal and tonal is something very interesting. personally...I wouldn't use harmonic minor at the end of it and finish it in a tonal way, or perhaps you should use it but make it a little longer. what I mean is that your ending could be a little interesting..lets say have some of the initial ideas put at the end.

thanks for sharing.

Thanks javileru,

Well, it's one of my longer pieces :o,

and I'll continue working on it.. Good suggestion of reminding the initial ideas,

I'll think of different variations maybe, to put there.

Usually my endings are short, like I put some short stacattos in the end... or so..

Also, I have seen that not all people like to listen to this kind of genre, so when I finished writing the piece for instance, I changed the sounds and the notes themselves a bit to be heard "better" by 'classical' audience, while keeping the original the way it sounds.

I think of it now as I am writing this: should I continue doing that, changing subtly pieces like that?

Thanks.

Absolutely not. As long as you are composing for yourself (i.e. not getting paid to write for a speciffic audience) never cater to your audiences, or any teacher, or anybody else but your own musical instinct. I think this is a fine piece, and I think it would sound great performed live. I would love to do a detailed review and critique of it, but atonal music is particularly hard to analyze without a score. Could you post a score?

Have you ever heard of the composer Frederic Rzewski? The way you switch between a consonant harmonic language and a dissonant harmonic language reminds of Rzewski. He has written a lot of piano music. Two pieces I suggest listening to are "Down by the Riverside" from Four North American Ballads and "The People United Will Never Be Defeated." Both are brilliant works that juggle tonality and atonality in a meaningful way. But careful! The second one is nearly an hour long, and if you get hooked on it as I did, it will be taking up a lot of your time!

Thank you for your comments, aerlinndan.

You are right, the composer could do whatever he wishes to and also should to.

I've yet understood why some people get 'stuck' in a specific music period ...

It is my intention for anything to sound the way it sounds.

I have composed this piece using Mozart, hence you can Download it), view and hear in realtime.

I haven't heard of Frederic Rzewski,

I do have a subscription to the iPod music store, so I can download the whole pieces of his music (I heard a 'demo' of 11 seconds and was impressed).

It happens to me all the time, that I hook on some piece, and it keeps playing in my head for a few days :) ; but only the "good" ones :) , especially the ones aren't famous... or the ones I yet heard.
