Morivou
Hi, peeps! Morivou here, bringing you the newest edition of Collaborative Works. The YoungComposer 2012 year is going to be JAM PACKED full of awesomeness, so to start off the year, I thought we could do a fun little project. I want four composers to write four movements of a string quartet. Each tied by the SAME concept. So, for example: Concept: Love. Four Composers/Four Movements: 1. Meow (writes the first movement). 2. Cheese (writes the second movement). and so forth. And, there can be MORE than just ONE string quartet, and the movements can be however long you want them to be. But, basically, each string quartet would have a different concept. It is an exercise in writing as a group, trying to make four movements fit a "program", and how to explore different parts of a concrete theme in an abstract environment! Post here or PM me if you are interested in participating! -Morivou. FIRST QUARTET: 1. Morivou 2. Tokkemon 3. ClarkN 4. Johann15 SECOND QUARTET: 1. 2. 3. 4. Morivou
I'll do it too. :) So, Justin and myself are in a group thus far. Would anybody care to join us? Austenite, it is because it doesn't require composers to intrude on each others compositional process. :) It allows one to see how you can work together to create seamless art. Taking musical ideas from one another, but coming up with four distinct results showing the different sides of the same idea. This is response to people not wanting to participate in things like: I write one measure, you write the next. Those almost NEVER work or sound good. haha. Not that this has never been done before - I remember reading about a joint project involving two Italian opera composers along with Haendel - and a century later, another one involving most of the Russian Five. It's indeed a nice idea.
calebhines
Interesting indeed. I know several people who participated in a small collaborative songwriting project back in February called "Frankensong". They basically broke into teams of 4-5 people each, and they were given a 3 minute "seed track" consisting of just percussion. Each team member had a week to record one or more accompanying tracks (instruments, vocals, etc) before passing the result to the next member who then recorded their layer(s) against that. At the end, all the individual tracks were remixed to get a proper balance. The results were... unique.
Morivou
Oh! That's pretty cool. I had no idea it had been done before, but it isn't very surprising.

Morivou
Could you please respond to my PM. :)
Morivou
Ok! The first String Quartet is complete. Which means, we are gonna get the ball rolling on this project come January 1st. :) Be ready! In other news... PLEASE sign up for this! I would like 2 or even three complete String Quartets to come out of this project. :) And, if it takes off, it takes off! haha. We'll see. Also, as a side note, these Quartets will not be judged against one another. They are simply going to be an exhibition of team work and multitudes of differing styles, experience, and understanding! treehugger1995
The summer? I may be able to do it! there's a 50/50 chance I will be in a composition camp though (trying to scrounge up as much money as I can so that I can afford it!!) so, I'll see if I can join. speaking of which, if you want to help, buy my album http://dream-music.bandcamp.com/) anyway, i'll see what I can do, very likely I'll be able to do it
