Looking For Opera Composers

Featured Replies

Hello,

My name is John and I am a singer, composer, and writer. I am currently working on one libretto with a composer, and have ideas for others which I would love to shop around to someone people. I am specifically looking for younger, more open-minded composers willing to write the following:

Cursing,

Dark humor,

Filthy incest and rape,

Violence,

MELODRAMA

etc.

Opera has a rich macabre tradition that is totally disappearing from modern composition. It seems like the only operas being done now-a-days come from the same damn list of high-school and early college English Literature classes. BOOOOOOORING!!

I want to write unapologetic melodrama with crazy plots, violence, sex, murder, racist jokes, and everything else that made opera fun and popular in the old days. I am completely allergic to pedantic braininess and intellectualism. I want blood and guts.

Anyone out there want to write opera like that?

This sounds fun ;)

Some more info about yourself would probably help out prospective composers, John.
