Challenge: Write A Sonata

Featured Replies

Here are a few themes, someone requested some themes to work with in the SB. May as well post here for posterity (get it? nvm)

The challenge is to write a sonata. Piano is the default but any instrumentation is okay.

I love it!  The hardest part has already been done!

I would consider doing this - but don't take me on my word just yet, since I'm somewhat drained out and have perhaps a few commitments too much.

Sounds like fun, I'll compose something quickly

So does it have to use those themes?  I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask.

It would be a good idea to use those as opening themes. ;) Feel free to choose a different key/ change the last half bar of what's given/ add an intro/ whatever else you feel like doing

I assume that changes in register are also fine? Are you also composing your own sonata for this challenge p7rv?

yeah of course.

I will commit to completing any of the themes to prove that it's possible if I am challenged (like if someone says it's impossible to harmonize or continue or whatever). Beyond that, if the fancy strikes me, I guess. Johnbucket asked me for a sonata theme in the SB, so he might be doing one too, but I have no clue whatsoever if that will come to fruition.

I'll try this out

I'll get the ball rolling. I composed a movement based on the first movement theme. Cheers

Sorry, a little late to the party: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/5354/divertimento-for-p7rvs-sonata-competition/

i saw this just now. is it to late to add my submission within a few days from now?

The submissions so far have truly been a glut of delights. I am in the process of compiling notes, and so far, it has been tremendously interesting.

not in the least. There's no deadline, really, so the only time pressure is to do it before other entrants use up all the good ideas
