May 6, 20214 yr I wrote this some time ago but only recently bothered to create a graphical score and put it on YouTube. So I'll also share it here while I'm at it.
May 6, 20214 yr Really nice, I enjoyed it a lot! I particularly loved the more modern sound starting at 1:30, I think it really created a nice contrast with the rest. A really enjoyable piece! Did you maybe use smalin public domain software for creating the animation ( http://www.musanim.com/DIY/ ) or did you do it yourself? I tried to create some graphic animations with the public domain software but, on windows 10, the program's screen is cut off at the bottom so some of the bass notes do not show. It doesn't cut anything off for me (and if it does it's the fault of my screen recorder, not the software) so I do wonder what's going on for you.
May 6, 20214 yr I think it is definitely a Gavotte in manner and character! You start the Gavotte as expected with a two beat anacrusis and continue that pattern throughout the piece. I like your extended phrasing and development and your more discordant touches in a kind of neo-classical style. I usually compose these kind of dances for string orchestra and it's cool that you chose a wind quintet to give this Gavotte a more quirky and eccentric kind of character. I especially like the added stress/fermata at 2:10 and the subdued throw-away ending was humorous. Thanks for sharing!
May 6, 20214 yr Very nice, and performance-wise a nice rendering with good articulation. Bubbles with energy. I felt it lacked dynamic variation but, well, it's your work and perhaps you wanted it all close to a constant volume - that certainly fits with the times Gavottes were popular. At various points one instrument or another seemed to dominate to drown the others out. But it's a great piece and as Peterthe PaperComposer has said, a classical dance brought up to date with some modern twists. Almost Prokofiev in parts.
