Here's a folk song I composed. This is a string ensemble version for violin, viola and cello with madolin and guitar.

The work is titled "Here comes my woman".  I have another version in progress for SATB and harp with original lyrics/text which I may post in the future.

Hope you enjoy it...Comments always welcome

nice and pleasant piece. your choice of instrumentation is interesting. Mandolin and guitar can tend to get lost behind strings. Maybe you can use the bass strings of the guitar more actively. You never used legato for strings, was it intentional?

I have gotten mixed messages over years in reference to placing slurs on the strings. Some state it indicates the bowing and/or other that it indicates legato passages.   Most people say let the violinist interpret the slurs .... ? What is the consensus here?

slurs can help clarify your point in distinguishing between phrases. However, it is your choice to leave them to the performer's interpretation

Where can we find it? A future version with SATB and harp, along with original lyrics, sounds intriguing, and I look forward to hearing that rendition as well.

I may agree with the previous comment regarding the mandolin and guitar getting lost. But the negative effects of that is that the over all song is magnificently angelic. It feels like the angels above came down to sing and play in your composition.

That's wonderful! If you have the sheet music or a recording of your folk song, you can share it with the community or ask for feedback. If you have any specific requests or questions about your composition, feel free to provide more details, and I'd be happy to assist you. Whether it's about arranging, instrumentation, or any other aspect of your piece, the community may offer valuable insights and support.

Thanks.
