January 13, 20224 yr Very nice. Very simple theme shaped by what seems like a harmonic-relativity approach to the harmony which creates plenty of harmonic contrast. Also, plenty of breaks to the slow waltz rhythm which give the piece less of a dance-like flavor and more of a melancholy and uncertain one. I do have to say I love this kind of harmonic ambiguity. Although you do use plenty of F minor chords which is what the key signature would suggest the key to be, you've also got plenty of Db major and minor, not to mention that you end on a Bb minor chord which I guess in this context would be the subdominant (which is a nice touch). I do have to say that I had to let this piece grow on me before I could fully enjoy it. It seems to be kindred in harmonic language and conception to Satie's Gymnopedies. Very enjoyable. I have also been told that it is reminiscent of Satie's Gymnopedies, and it must be the meditative style I'm trying to get. I wasn't sure which key would be the most appropriate to be honest, I wrote it in F minor at the end but what you are saying makes more sense. I could update the score.
