Towering Within - Composed by Myself on Ableton Classical/Orchestral

Recommended Posts

This composition was originally an Action/Cinematic piece however I felt the bass or the main motive was worth putting down as a classical piece.

It finally jumps to an entire orchestra at the end with it being dramatic yet subtle, it might be a tiny bit repetitive however just the main theme is something I find really confronting and striking once you've reached the end of the composition.

Hi Tom. I was looking for a break to listen to your piece again and comment it properly. I remembered that it was longer for some reason.

It does remind me of a certain Star Wars track, but that one chooses a softer path than your piece. The main theme strikes, it definitely does, though I don't know if it's just my end, but I feel saturation in the audio which impoverishes the overall feeling of this very strong theme a bit.

In my opinion the end is a bit lacking, but likely because I imagine that your theme could really act as a prelude of something bigger. I did not get bored at all man, these 2 mins and a half passed in less than a breath. Impressive!

Hope you keep sharing your work here. The sound is very cool (I personally wouldn't mind a score but this is probably made in a DAW so perhaps it's complicated to do so) despite that saturation I listen.

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

I really liked it.  The intensity of it is great.  I’m a violist and I’m all about intensity….the repetitiveness doesn’t bother me because, well, I’m a violist☺️.  Violists have lots of experience in that unfortunately.  But I did feel like I wanted something more at the end.  Possibly the way to do that is draw back a bit with dynamics or less instruments at the end or the beginning….whichever feels more natural to you.  It came in like droves and I appreciated that too.  We always need to ask, where is the phrase going.  I have a conductor always asking this question as we work on pieces.    I think the dynamics may help a lot with that.  It does sound cinematic!  I find that there are many pieces of music both cinematic and background to computer games that are fabulous works!  I ALMOST said video games haha.

I like it, it definitely fits into the "action" vibe you're trying to create.

If it were me, I would scale back the orchestration for the melody on the first half (up to about 1:05) or so, instead of having the full orchestra. Maybe just horns/low brass? Or woodwind choir? Then we the main theme returns later around 1:20 add in the full orchestra. This will give the piece a sense of narrative and add variety.

The repetitiveness is only noticeable to me near the end, since the main theme repeats itself five times. Maybe add some imitative counterpoint in lower voices (brass...) or some string/woodwind runs on some of the later repetitions to give more variety. Also I think some percussion would help.

Overall I think it's good. What time signature is this in btw? I'm having trouble figuring it out.

Hi bro, the theme brought me to the memories of seeing star wars, like the mentioned in the comments. I did like the ostinatos that were present, and the intensity that was created using the strings and brass was very high. However, the end was very faint, and it broke the expectations of a gigantic, grand ending, that I had in the song's beginning. Moreover, at one point, in the middle, the brass ostinatos were kinda out of tune from the strings. However, other than that, the score was pretty nice to hear.
