Desparate - for String Sextet, 2 Pianos and 2 Percussions

Here is one of my past works, reexport with Musescore 4.
An direct imitation to Avro Part's Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten.

I did have meaningfully chosen the building block of the works, such that it won't get confused easily with Part's work.

I hope you guys might feel heavy after listening this.

Hi @SisselOnline,

For me this is a work in the minimalistic style with all the instruments repeating the F-E-D-C-Bb-A-G-F-E-D line in different rhythm and beat.

I am sorry but honest to say that I don't feel heavy at all after listening this. First is the instrumentation: I really don't feel like there are 2 pianos and a String Sextet here with the thickness of the sound. I feel like more a piano and a String Quartet wth the bell. Maybe there's not enough individuality of the instrument, new materials and rich harmonic content for this combination.

Also I notice that in Part's Piece there are individual lines for each parts even it's minimalistic and have development at the end. You can add a sense of development by adding new materials, instead of having the same phrase all over in all instruments!

I won't consider my work really good, after all I know what I did is just changing the building body of the minimalist work and tricking with some more multiples.

(Plus it's one of my earlier works lol, before 2019)

Adding a sense of development sounds good 👍

Haha we will all get better if we keep trying and fighting in our piece!! I myself compose worse than you in my first compositions!!

At least for me this is imporatnt, but if you aim at new age music then it will be fine.

Hey Sissel, glad to see you in the forums!

My opinion of this work is similar to Henry's, but it's pretty pensive to me nonetheless. The atmosphere you create here is more or less elaborated taking into account the amount of material used, which we may agree is scarce —in this case, for the own good of the piece—. The flawed part in my opinion lies at the very end which I think isn't "naked" enough.

In other words, I would dare to say you structured this work a bit like a slow 'crescendo' that but the end didn't match (in my opinion) with that structure, much less with a "crescendo' and then diminuendo" one. If you happen to revisit this piece, my only advice would be focusing at the end, the rest is good.
