How Far I'll Go - Moana Effect/purpose of Am6 chord

Hi @Pano,

You can show the following bars of the score to have a clearer vision of the function!

From the score shown here, the Am6 is not a tonicization. Rather it's only a borrowed chord from A minor, where in here A major should be the normal subdominant. The borrowed chord acts as a decorative chord here rather than tonicized chord.

Hi @Pano,

The score is still unclear so I just download the free score anyway haha!

Yes the A minor chord is just a neighbouring chord which is decorative. A neighbouring chord is a non-harmonic chord when both chords surrounding it is the same. Normally the neighbouring chords is on a second inversion chord, which in the case the A minor should be on an E rather than a C natural for a smoother harmonic progression, but here using the C will become a first inversion chord. Nonetheless it's still a neighbouring chord with the intended A major borrowing the C natural from A minor to have an A minor chord here.
