Nocturne Op.1, Nr.1

Just a sad nocturne... Constructive feedback is warmly welcome!

Edited by ComposedBySam

Hi @ComposedBySam.

For me I won't say this nocturne sad. I think the beginning is ominous and it's dark throughout. I love the middle section more with the more frequent change of harmonies. The retransition back to A minor in 1:50 is quite fascinating with the G sharp minor having an interrupted E major then re-interpreted as the dominant of A minor. If the score is provided here I am sure it's easier to have constructive feedback!

Thank you for taking the time to listen! I am glad you found this pleasant to listen to. I have attached the score now

Hey @ComposedBySam,

Thanks for providing thr score! With the score I will address to the enharmonics. In b.16 and 18 LH I would use D sharp there. In b.47-51, will you use D sharp minor and G sharp minor there to keep the key same as before as in b.43?

Yes you're right. In b.16 it should be a D sharp. In b.47-51, I intended the harmony to undergo a temporary modulation to E flat major hence I used flats instead of sharps. Although, now that you say I think it would have made more sense to keep the sharps. Thank you so much for taking the time out inย meticulously pointing out these issues!ย

I think it's a great and creative idea to start the piece off with a melody in the left hand low range to be echoed later on in the higher right hand range.ย  I think that gives it a great variety of texture.ย  This also reminds me a bit of one of Chopin's famous Mazurka's.ย  Measures 16 - 18 really give me an impression of being inspired by Chopin.ย  Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for taking to time to listen and to give such a kind feedback! I had been analysing Chopin's nocturnes for a while now so I thought why not gain some experience in writing some ๐Ÿ™‚
