An Piano Oboe Moment

Hi all,

Well this was a good week - my muse has spoken to me.  I present here a work I just wrote this week for Oboe and Piano.  As always suggestions - comments - welcome.  This is the first completed version.  I hope you enjoy the work which gave me great pleasure to compose.

Hi Mark,

For sure the outer sections are funny and humorous in character. The use of tritone B-F with a minor subdominant chord switching with a G minor chord is funny and effective for me.

But for me they are featured too much especially when the contrasting slow section is also using them. Maybe having some harmonic changes will be great as well? They are both using G as the tone centre, maybe having other tone centre a good contrast as well?

Hi Mark.

It is when the Oboe starts to speak when I get convinced of the mood of this piece, as the piano introductory part (and I would say only that part) seems a bit off to my taste, melodically speaking most likely. 

The rest of the piece is more than pleasurable in my opinion, you make Oboe and piano blend in a jaunty but solid way regardless of the tempo and the way you intertwined both voices, all the way to the end, which by the way I must say it was not the best I have listened from you, but it was not unsatisfying either.

Thanks all for the review ... I hear you!  As I said this was a spontaneous composition.  And as in all first versions - more development is required.  As for the 2nd Adagio section having the same tonal center ... I envisioned it to be a variation of the opening mood; however, I do see how the same tonal center can be and will be repetitious.  Let's see what I can do with it - keeping your keen criticisms in mind.  At times I must be a bit more patient (and keep my enthusiasm in check) before I post!!!  A good lesson for all on the forum for sure. 😇
