3rd Violin Concerto in D Major Composed by Tom Dahlenburg

Featured Replies

This is a composition I composed a while ago however I still enjoy reflecting on how I work around the tonic or D Major, the composition takes advantage of rapid scales based in D and mostly resolves around the diatonic 1, 4 and the dominant 5. The finish took me a long time to perfect as it resolves with quick staccato chords and rapid changes resolving to a sudden D maj that ends  the piece with an energetic yet comforting feel.

If anyone has any questions or input into the piece please comment below.

Hi @Tom Dahlenburg,

This is a real energetic piece!

For me the piece will be quite short enough to called a Concerto. Also is there a solo violin featured here? I feel like at most it will be a Concerto Grosso but I can't find the contrast of tutti and concertino either. Maybe it should be longer and virtuosic to be calles a Concerto?

Also I think the D major is featured too frequently here since not many modulations here. This also link with the overall structure of the piece since without different keys to encircle different sections the structure is less apparent here.

Thanks for sharing!

Henry
