Papageno
Here is my minuet and trio in C major. A bit more baroquesque than my usual offerings, except for the speed. When Mozart was 14, and in Italy I believe, he wrote about quick minuets which a bit more livelier than the stately dance he was used to.
Henry Ng Tsz Kiu
Hey Darren, Gosh you have such clean handwriting! The noteheads are really big! It's interesting you are having a 8+8+4 in the minuet, and a 8+8+8 in the F major trio. Maybe I will extend the 4 bars sentence in the minuet to 8 bar to for balance, by adding four bars in C major before the ending you presented here. But again this is very enjoyable with its simplicity. My favourite portion is the C minor portion, the middle 8 bars in the minuet. That part is so clever to me. From bar 7-8 of the trio there's a parallel fifth of F-C to C-G, not sure if you will change it or not since it only happens in a quaver time. I'm ok with parallel octave in this style, but I usually avoid parallel fifth since it's more apparent. In b.14 of the trio you miss out the natural sign for the B natural! Thanks for sharing. This is enjoyable. Henry
Papageno
Thank you Henry for listening to my music and for looking closely at the score. I never really thought about my handwriting, I think it's clear so I can read it better at the piano, I tried doing a scruffy short-hand style before but it looked awful. I like your balancing suggestion, I'll see what extending Minuet B or contracting Trio B does to the feeling of forward momentum. And I wasn't quite sure about the 5ths when I wrote them, the pedal note might count as a third voice, I'm not sure to be honest. In any case going down to e after f and going up as V7b would solve it. Thanks again 🙂 Darren
Papageno
The revised minuet. I decided to shorten the trio.
Henry Ng Tsz Kiu
Hey Darren, I like the shortening of the trio as I feel like it's more balanced now. I also notice in b.28 you change the C to E in LH, so no parallel 5th there! Henry
