August 7, 20232 yr Hi @MJFOBOE, This one is a refreshing little gem from yours. I love your alternating meter and your sense of rhythm to push the piece forward and forward, making it very coherent and soothing to listen to. The dialogue between the clarinet and the strings is great as well, like moments when strings are repeating the clarinet in b.28, when clarinet is taking a rest and the strings taking charge of the melody, and so forth. October 20, 20232 yr The score doesn't specify whether it's transposing or concert pitch. I spent half the time looking at the score and listening to the piece just trying to determine that. I think it's concert pitch but then the score says "Bb Clarinet" which is misleading. This is quite a quirky piece though! I love the harmonic language. On that topic, I think your choice of enharmonic spelling is sometimes poor. Whether you choose sharps or flats at any given point in the piece shouldn't be determined by the vertical sonority at that particular moment, but on the logical contour of the melodic line and whether it is rising or falling and whether the intervals in that line are represented in the most simple way possible (avoiding diminished and augmented intervals that can deceive the sight-reader into thinking that they're looking at a different interval than they actually are). Like in measure 24, I would have spelled the Eb as a D# in the Clarinet part, since it is a lower neighbor tone to the E natural. But that's just a nitpicky notation thing and the Clarinet part isn't even displayed in the actual key that the player would see anyways. Overall - quite an enjoyable piece with its own style and attitude! Thanks for sharing.
