Untitled composition for woodwind and strings

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Here's a piece I started writing last week.

Not quite sure what to do with it next?

Am thinking of bringing in a harp with some kind of variation on the theme.

Maybe I should gradually increase the tempo and create a faster section in the form of a jig?

Hi Alex,

I think you can first have the bowed strings instruments to present the themes first, since now they are all played by the woodwind. Having the strings to play the theme can bring something objective of it for me, before having the harp enters for a more colourful re-interpretation of the theme.

If you choose this, the opening can act as a sort of augur and introduction with a quick version of the opening theme used as the main section of the jig?

Just wanna note that the opening Bb major-D major harmonic progression is quite similar to what you do in The Boar's Head!

Thx for sharing!

Thanks Henry.

It is virtually identical to "The Boar's Head". I decided to take this composition and adapt it for choir.

Mainly because I didn't have much time to produce a Christmas Carol for the competition.

I always seem to hear about competitions very close to the deadline, and then have to rush to produce something!

I am still planning to develop this as an orchestral work as well.
