Theme with variations

Featured Replies

Hi! It has rained a lot since last time i posted somenthing here!

I've been working on this and i want to show this piece for my access exam on may. I think that my style has evolved a lot and i tried making a piece with a more modern harmonic language.

I think that the variations differ a lot from the original theme and the order is still to be decided.

Hi Samuel!

These variations are coming along quite nicely!  For me it would be easy to fill up the empty space that you haven't written yet because I just default to writing my variations based on the model of the theme.  And the theme here is gorgeous btw.  And quite melancholy - yielding very affecting variations thus far!  What's keeping you from finishing this piece?  I think my favorite part so far must be how Variation IV starts -  the minor 7th omitting the 3rd sonority and those half-diminished chords are very ambiguous and I love that sound.  I really hope you finish this!  Thanks for sharing.

Peter

Hi @Samuel_vangogh,

I am sure I have heard the theme before from your post! I love the mood change in var. 4 with those triplets like a march and a beautiful viola melody.
