Tarantella, Op. 6 by Giuseppe Martucci

G’day fellas,

I hope you’re all well. So I just spent a stupid amount of time transcribing Giuseppe Martucci’s Tarantella Op. 6 (not to be confused with his Op. 44 No. 6) into my music notation software because I couldn’t find a recorded performance of it on the web, and really wanted to know how it sounded.

I’m considering uploading it to YouTube with score accompaniment. I applied some of the feedback that I have been given in my own compositions, particularly regarding dynamics and variation in note texture. I tried my best to make it sound like a performance, although am fully aware that it could do with some changes in tempo now and again.

Hope you enjoy the piece, and if you’re interested please by all means let me know if there are some adjustments I can make to give it more of the feel of a performance!

Cheers,

Quinn

In my opinion it's not just that the tempo doesn't change that makes it sound robotic - it just too fast to me.  I know it's a tarantella and they're meant to be fast, but imo it would sound more musical slower.  Also, you could bring more contrast to the contrasting sections by having those slower as well, in comparison to the tempo primo.  The rendition sounds a bit dry also - maybe you could add a bit of reverb?  There are also short sections of the piece which include pedal, but I'm not sure that I heard that your rendition?

Btw - what program did you make this in?  It sounds like it might be Musescore MSbasic piano soundfont.  The problem I've encountered with that is that usually it sounds dead at pianissimo.  But you can fix that if you download the reverb effect off of Musehub.  Thanks for sharing!

G'day @PeterthePapercomPoser,

Thanks a lot for your observations! I'll take them into consideration.

I used Crescendo Music Notation. I definitely understand what you mean by the pianissimo. There was a certain part of the score where a "ppp" was enscribed, but ultimately I decided against it because the sound was practically non-existant.

Anyway, thanks again for your feedback!

Cheers, Quinn
